The new Sensa has just been launched at IDS 2025 by Alliedstar.
This marks a significant evolution for the company, following their acquisition by Straumann Group in 2023. This new scanner is a complete redesign of their IOS line, moving away from their industrial-looking predecessors to a modern, ergonomic design.
Here is everything you need to know.

Alliedstar Sensa - What's New?
The Sensa represents Alliedstar's new flagship scanner. The company has rebranded with a modern logo and named their flagship scanner "Sensa" - which reportedly stands for "sensational scanning." Dropping the model number naming scheme like AS260, 200E etc of previous models.
Hardware Improvements
The Sensa features a radical redesign compared to previous Alliedstar models:
- Ergonomic design: the scanner adopts a sleek and modern new look. Remindas me of the Medit i900 frankly.
- Lightweight Construction: Weighing only 230g, it's one of the lightest wireless scanners on the market, even lighter than their previous AS 200E model.
- Improved Optical Engine: Not just a repackaging - the scanning performance has been enhanced
- Shockproof Construction: Reportedly can withstand falls from desk height without damage or requiring recalibration
- Dual-Sided Buttons: Continues Alliedstar's unique feature of having scanner buttons on both sides of the device
- Fully Integrated Battery: Unlike previous models, there are no removable batteries requiring assembly
Scanner Tips
The Sensa comes with five scanner tips featuring notable improvements:
- Rounded, Compact Design: More refined appearance and generally have a higher quality feel
- One-Size-Fits-All Approach: Alliedstar has eliminated small/pediatric tips, focusing on a universal design that works for all patients
- Autoclaveable: Tips can be autoclaved up to 180 times, a significant improvement in longevity.
Battery Technology and Wireless Features
Alliedstar has completely rethought their approach to battery management:
- Built-In Battery: No more removable or interchangeable batteries
- Extended Use Time: Over three hours of continuous scanning on a single charge
- Fast Charging Technology: A completely drained battery can be charged for just 3 minutes to complete a 7-minute scan
- No Backup Wires: There's no wired backup option. All in on wireless tech.
- Wireless Range: Up to 10 meters using TP Link dongle technology
- LED Indicators: Clear battery status display on the scanner
Software Enhancements
Alliedstar has also made significant improvements to their software:
- AI scan assistant improvements
- AI oral health report app
- Model builder
- Orthodontic simulator
- Generally improved interface compared to earlier versions
The Cost of the Alliedstar Sensa
The Sensa enters the market at $13,995 USD as an IDS launch promotion, which includes - a 3-year warranty, drop coverage and no subscription fees for the software.
Additional costs to consider:
- Scanner tips: $120 USD for a pack of 2 tips ($60 each)
- Cost per patient: Approximately 33 cents (based on 180 autoclave cycles per tip)
This makes it one of the more affordable scanners on the market. Mid tier in price but the performance is excellent.
With the release of the Sensa, the other Alliedstar scanners have been repositioned at lower price points:
- AS 200E = 11,995 USD
- AS 260 = 8,995 USD
Alliedstar's Evolution in the Scanner Market
Alliedstar's journey in the intraoral scanner market has been interesting to follow:
- 2022: Emerged with their first scanner, the AS 100, which had good scanning capabilities but industrial design and limited software. Read my review here.
- 2023-2024: Released the AS 260 and wireless AS 200E, addressing design concerns and improving software
- 2023: Acquired by Straumann Group. Significant industry backing.
- 2025: Complete reimagining of their brand with new logo and the flagship Sensa scanner
Conclusion
The Alliedstar Sensa represents a major step for the company, demonstrating their commitment to competing with premium level scanners in the IOS market. With the backing of Straumann Group and their focus on ergonomics, performance, and modern design, Alliedstar appears to be positioning themselves as a serious contender among established players.
The scanner's specifications, competitive pricing, and thoughtful features like the dual-sided buttons and fast charging technology shows a company that is trying to establish their unique selling point. The overall package presents a compelling option for practices looking to invest in digital dentistry but not at the most extreme end in terms of cost.
I will be publishing a comprehensive review evaluating the Sensa's performance in real-world clinical settings, testing the improved software features and assessing how the scanner compares to other flagship models from established brands.
From what I've seen so far, Alliedstar is definitely a company to watch in the scanner market this year.
thank you
