Medit’s software apps are some of the best in the industry - and they’re absolutely free as well.

It makes it easy to recommend Medit scanners to dentists who are just getting started with digital dentistry, or who only use their intraoral scanner to take digital impressions.

For those wanting to do chairside CAD/CAM, Medit hasn’t really been the best option. This space has been dominated by CEREC.

Those who wanted to do CAD/CAM with Medit scanners had to use either exocad or 3Shape software - however, that looks like it’s about to change.

In super exciting news - Medit has just announced that they’re working on a new app, Medit ClinicCAD. This has the potential to be another disrupter by the company.

They’re currently in the process of getting beta users to try it out, so I’m guessing it’s pretty close to being market ready.

For anyone who wants to give it a try, all you have to do is get the beta from the App Box now, try it out, and send your feedback to beta@medit.com by the beginning of August.

Medit describes ClinicCAD as an easy-to-use CAD solution for the in-office creation of dental appliances. The app provides workflows for designing the following types of restorations:

  • Crown
  • Coping
  • Bridge (with pontics)
  • Eggshell-type restoration
  • Inlay/Onlay
  • Cervical Inlay
  • Veneer

They also released some key features of ClinicCAD that users can expect as well:

  • Margin Creation with AI (Windows only): Automatic creation of margins for crowns, copings.
  • Auto Data Selection for Eggshell Restoration: Target teeth data are automatically identified and selected.
  • Supported on Windows with NVIDIA cards, macOS with Monterey 12.3 or higher.
  •  Libraries Management: Add and edit teeth libraries.
  • Copy/Mirror Tool: Copy or mirror teeth on scan data to use instead of library.
  • Screw/Handle: Add screw access holes or handles to crown design.
  • Pontic Library: Create eggshell crowns using pontic library in cases with missing teeth.
  • Cervical Inlay: Design inlay for cervical abrasion with guide for setting restoration.
  • In Medit Link form, temporarily register as "Offset Substructure".

Pretty exciting stuff!

It’s worth noting that you need Windows 10, macOS Monterey 12 or Medit Link 3.1.0 to effectively run ClinicCAD. At this stage it is a free software.

Here’s a quick introductory video that Medit put together about ClinicCAD.
