Course Overview
Day One
This day will focus on the main principles of CAD/CAM and techniques to ensure you can take an efficient and accurate digital impression.
We will start with the basics of scanning protocol and then move to practicing scanning on take-home printed models. Each participant will be free to use use all CAD/CAM systems to practice scanning including CEREC Omnicam, CEREC Primescan, 3Shape TRIOS3, Planmeca Emerald and Medit i500. This is then followed by practicing Intra-Oral scanning and mastering the techniques required when taking a real live scan.
We will then move onto design and milling phase of the CAD/CAM workflow and explore the fundamentals of creating restorations using CAD software. This will include:
- Exploring the entire CAD protocol and key pointers to ensure well-fitting restorations
- Key tips and tricks to avoid problems with fitting and to ensure tight contacts that fit seamlessly
You will be guided on how to design restorations on each system and proceed to milling the restorations and checking the fit on printed models. Comparison will be made between each of the different CAD/CAM systems.
Day Two
The second day will tackle CAD/CAM materials, glazing and characterisation techniques to create beautiful aesthetic restorations. Understanding what types of CAD materials are available and their indications is a key learning objective.
We will repeat what we have learnt in day one and carry out the entire digital work flow from start to finish. You will scan and design another two restorations (crown, inlay or onlay), start to finish and work through the entire process to mill the restorations out of a materials of your choice.
Hands-On Characterisation and glazing techniques will be covered. You will carry this out on the restorations you have produced and fire the restorations so you can see the results of the stain and glaze. You will also compare how this can affect the fit and learn key tips to ensure high quality restorations.
Lastly we will explore CAD/CAM ownership and key aspects that you will need to be aware of. Costs, maintenance, required consumables, how to set up your book and staff delegation will all be covered
This is the only course where you will be trained on all the latest CAD/CAM systems and be able to compare them side by side as you learn how to master digital dentistry.

Dr Hamid Al-Hassiny
Digital Dentist and CAD/CAM Educator
Dr Hamid Al-Hassiny has been practising dentistry in New Zealand for over twenty years. He runs a state of the art 8-chair dental practice in Wellington, New Zealand and is dedicated to utilising the most advanced dental technology.
Dr. Hamid is an early adopter of CAD/CAM technology and has been using this technology for many years, completing over 3,500 restorations. He has advanced experience in three of the latest CAD/CAM systems (CEREC, Trios and Planmeca) and uses them daily in his practice in many fields of dentistry including single tooth dentistry, cosmetic makeovers, full mouth rehab and restoring dental implants.
Upon completing this fundamental course, you will gain an in-depth understanding of each CAD/CAM system and have extensive hands-on experience in the practical application of CAD/CAM technology.
Dr Ahmad Al-Hassiny is a driven and passionate dentist who has a strong focus on the digital workflow. Graduating from the University of Otago in 2015 with First Class Honours and being awarded many clinical and Research prizes, he has continued his pursuit of excellence in dentistry.
Having been trained at the university of Otago solely using analogue and traditional techniques, Dr Ahmad is fortunate to adopt CAD/CAM and digital dentistry very early on in his dental career which has allowed him to focus on developing his skills in this field.
Dr Ahmad understands the benefits of digital dentistry and how this can positively change daily dental practice. He has carried out and has been involved in many aspects of complex dentistry including CAD/CAM full mouth rehabilitation and digital smile design.
