3Shape have had an exciting month so far.

The company has just announced a new upgraded TRIOS MOVE+ and Model Builder software called Model Builder Express.

Lastly, and most interestingly, the company also unveiled 3Shape Produce - their new CAM solution.

Let's breakdown these updates below.

TRIOS MOVE+ Updates and TRIOS MOVE for TRIOS 5.

On September 5th, 3Shape introduced a new and upgraded TRIOS MOVE+.

The update to TRIOS MOVE+ will now use Windows 11 as its operating system, making scan post-processing up to 30% faster – the company claims.

More interesting than an operating system update however, is the fact that the TRIOS MOVE+ is now compatible with all TRIOS scanners.

It now comes with two holders that can store either the TRIOS 3, TRIOS 4 or TRIOS 5. This means that you can now buy TRIOS 5 with the TRIOS MOVE+ configuration. Prior to the announcement TRIOS 5 was laptop-only.

The TRIOS MOVE+ cart is something we have reviewed in our TRIOS 4 review. It is an excellent scanner cart and one of, if not, the best scanner cart on the market in terms of ergonomics and just plain style. It is great to see this finally become available for TRIOS 5!

One downside of the TRIOS MOVE+ carts is that they don't have a battery in them. This means that to move it between rooms in the dental practice, you will need to turn it off each time, unplug and then plug it up and start it up again. It is quite annoying and we hope in the next MOVE+ iteration there is an in-built battery.

All in all, the TRIOS MOVE+ is a fantastic cart that I personally use in my practice daily and can recommend - just keep the battery thing in mind. Keep an eye out for our iDD TRIOS 5 Review coming soon!

Model Builder Express

AI is the talk of the industry at the moment, and 3Shape already have a lot of experience with using AI to turn scans into models.

In their intraoral scanner software, 3Shape Unite, an AI model builder has been available for some time. Appropriately called 3Shape Model Builder, it is a one click solution to make models that can be printed.

Although Medit Model Builder is a fan favorite and completely open to all users, the 3Shape Model Builder takes a different route. It is completely automated. You really just click a single button and the AI does the rest.

Although pretty cool to do and saves a bit of time, there were some limitations with this software initially. For one, you had to upload both upper and lower models in a bite, not just a single arch. It also by default cut out the palate for an upper arch scan.

3Shape have listened and now there are more features and options when using the model builder, rather than just one standard option. It is also key to note that this model builder is coming not only to the clinic-side software but also the lab-side software.

Model Builder Express will automatically prepare a proposal, turning a scan into a model using AI and allows you to inspect – and correct it – if needed. You can make a model for only one jaw and where it is possible to include the palatal area for the upper jaw. Finally adding labels is a feature added to this too. In line with other great model builders.

Model Builder Express is not an updated version of Model Builder—it is a completely new and separate product. 3Shape offer three model solutions: Model Maker (IOS), Model Builder (Lab Side), and now Model Builder Express.

Model Builder Express is the only fully AI- driven solution, and it uses an “inspect and correct” workflow to retain a level of control for the clinician/technician.

3Shape Produce

3Shape Produce is the most exciting announcement made by the company.

This is an awesome software addition for those looking to simplify their in-house production.

What is 3Shape Produce?

At its core, it functions as a bridge between 3Shape Design Software (chairside and lab) and CAD/CAM machines.

It replaces the previously used 3Shape CAM Server, promising a smoother and more unified experience.

One of the notable advantages of 3Shape Produce is its inclusion with 3Shape Studio Apps and Model Maker, making it accessible to a wide user base.

Basically the idea is that you will be able to finish your CAD design, and through 3Shape Produce, send the CAD file to any printer / mill you are using for fabrication. It is a integration platform in a way baked into the 3Shape software.

The following manufactures are on board with 3Shape Produce, with more said to join in time.

3Shape Produce 1

With just a few clicks, 3Shape Produce packages, saves, and dispatches your design files to your chosen integrated 3D printer or milling machine.

3Shape Produce supports a wide range of different applications. From surgical guides to occlusal splints, crowns, inlays, onlays, veneers, three-unit bridges, and models.

It looks like they've created 3Shape Produce to be as intuitive and user-friendly as possible, which is a win for everyone.

That is everything so far that 3Shape have released - what are your thoughts on these new updates? Let me know in the comments below.
