Last month 3Shape announced it has acquired lab management software provider LabStar.

For those dentists who may be wondering what LabStar is, it is basically like your practice management software but for dental labs.

It is essentially an online software platform to run your lab. It provides a solution for simple, cloud-based management. Everything from case entry to invoicing, with powerful features to manage clients, sales, logistics, digital files, reporting, and billing.

Today, close to 600 dental labs around the world use LabStar.

How do we personally know about LabStar? We run an in-house lab that services all our personal clinics in Wellington, NZ.

When we were searching for a lab software we actually chose LabStar and continue to use it. It is a great software.

3Shape Senior Vice President Product Strategy Rune Fisker, says, “We are very excited to bring LabStar into the 3Shape family. We believe that LabStar is the very best LMS on the market - and so do the dental technicians we work with. Whether you are a dental lab using 3Shape, LabStar, or both, having LabStar onboard will enable your lab to do so much more.”

Staff from the LabStar team will integrate into the 3Shape organization as of today. Pricing for the LabStar LMS customers remains unchanged.

What can this mean for the future of LabStar? I wouldn't be surprised to see integration with the 3Shape portfolio very soon. Time will tell.
