Dentsply Sirona has just dropped a teaser video for DS World, and while details remain scarce, the imagery speaks volumes about the company's ambitious vision for the future of digital dentistry.

A Universe of Possibilities...

The teaser showcases cosmic imagery paired with the striking statistic that "over 8 million restorations are created with CEREC solutions every year" – a testament to the platform's massive global footprint. But it's the second image that really captures attention: a sleek, modern dental crown floating in space with the intriguing tagline "See how the legacy continues..."

This isn't just about celebrating past achievements. The space-age aesthetic suggests Dentsply Sirona is preparing to launch something big.

Could DS Be Moving to the Cloud?

One of the most compelling possibilities is that DS World will unveil a major shift toward cloud-based CAD solutions.

The dental industry has been trending in this direction, with several key advantages:

  • Seamless Updates: Cloud-based systems can receive instant updates and new features without requiring practice downtime
  • Enhanced Collaboration: Dentists could easily share cases with labs, specialists, or colleagues anywhere in the world
  • AI Integration: Cloud platforms offer the computational power needed for advanced AI-driven design suggestions and predictive analytics
  • Accessibility: Access your cases and designs from any device, anywhere

Given CEREC's massive user base of 8 million annual restorations, migrating to a cloud-based platform would represent one of the largest digital transformations in dental technology history. Could CEREC be coming to DS Core?

What Else Could Be Coming?

The theme and "legacy continues" messaging hint at several other possibilities for DS Core:

Expanded AI Capabilities: Advanced machine learning algorithms that could revolutionize treatment planning and restoration design, learning from millions of successful cases in the CEREC database.

Integrated Practice Management: A comprehensive ecosystem that connects CAD/CAM with practice management, patient communication, and clinical workflows.

The Anticipation Builds

I will be attending both the CEREC Docs event and DS World, I'm particularly excited to see how this teaser translates into real-world innovations. The timing couldn't be more perfect, the dental industry is at an inflection point where digital workflows are becoming the standard rather than the exception.

The question isn't whether Dentsply Sirona will announce something significant at DS World – it's whether they'll deliver the kind of paradigm shift that the teaser imagery suggests.

Stay tuned for live updates from both events. If the teaser is any indication, we're about to witness the next chapter in digital dentistry's evolution, and it promises to be as expansive as the cosmos itself.
