DS Core has officially launched. It happened at IDS 2023.

Essentially, DS Core is Dentsply Sirona's cloud based platform, CAD design service and service package. It seems like a step in the right direction for the company - will it have a big impact on the way CAD/CAM dentistry is carried out in clinics?

Time will tell.

What is DS Core by Dentsply Sirona?

Essentially, DS Core is an online cloud-storage platform that allows users to securely store their scans on a Google-based encrypted cloud service and access or share them anytime, anywhere in the world.

Built on the Google Cloud Platform, DS Core ensures the highest level of security and compliance with industry standards such as HIPAA and GDPR.

DS Core Key Features

One of the key features of DS Core is its seamless integration with all Dentsply Sirona equipment, including Primescan, Axeos, Orthophos, and more.

This means that you can easily store and access your scans, 3D X-rays, and other data from different devices within the DS Core platform.

Our initial impressions is that it is a user-friendly solution. The entire online platform is easy to sign up to and looks modern with a high degree of polish.

It is not only limited to Dentsply Sirona file formats but is an open platform that allows for easy integration with all intraoral scanners and file types. Dentsply Sirona seem like they are really opening up their system.

So regardless of what scanner you use, you can easily share your data using DS Core.

The pricing options for this service are shown below in NZD.

As you can see this isn't the most economic platform compared to cloud storage provided by other scanner companies. In saying that, Dentsply Sirona promise that this will be much more than just cloud storage. Can they deliver on this?

DS Core Care and DS Core Create

DS Core also offers another service - DS Core Create and DS Core Care.

DS Core Create is a CAD design service that enables dentists to outsource CAD design work to partnered labs around the world . This is all done within the online platform.

Simply chose the indication you want to be designed and partner labs will do it for you. The promise is that you will have a response within 15 minutes of your order being accepted and within 6 hours to have the first design proposal sent to you.

Ordering everything is very streamlined and quite easy to do.

DS Core Care, on the other hand, is the company's extended warranty and service package for both hardware and software, similar to the well-known CEREC Club subscription. With DS Core Care, dental practitioners get yearly maintenance of equipment, original spare parts, technical phone support, and access to a customer support portal for self-help.

And that is a quick rundown of DS CORE!

It is evident that Dentsply Sirona is serious about moving everything up into the cloud.

What is interesting is what this may lead to? Will all CAD software be moved to the cloud too at some time? Will you eventually be able to run CEREC chairside from the cloud and potentially with any scanner STL? Who knows.

What are your thoughts about DS CORE? We would love to hear them!
