  • I have a Dentsply cerec system that is 10 years old. I am looking to upgrade. What do you think are my best options? I am interested in also scanning for removable prosthodontics. I work with clear correct too. What are your thoughts on a cordless scanner? Also, I want to able to use a stronger block than lithium disilicate. And lastly, I have also seen where a screen is placed on a cart with the scanner. What do you think about that. Thank you

    • Hey Ana,

If you enjoy the CEREC workflow and doing same-day dentistry, I would recommend getting a Primescan system.

If you do not have interest in same-day dentistry or do not do it anyway, you have many options these days depending on your budget and needs.

TRIOS3 are Medit i700 capable scanners in the ~20k bracket

Medit i600, Aoralscan 3 etc are even more economical.

Wireless scanners are great. Currently its only 3 companies – TRIOS, Carestream Dental and Medit that make them.

It’s not the sole reason I would buy a scanner, but it’s a nice option.

Stronger than lithium disilicate? My question would be why? are you having issues? Regardless, the next option would be zirconia.

I am a fan of cart scanners for tidiness and ease of use.

      I hope that helps 🙂

    • Hey Dr. Lester.

Basically, every scanner is ‘compatible’ with any lab these days. They are all open systems that enable the export of STL.

In regards to best value, I would say my top picks are Aoralscan 3, Helios 600, Medit i600 or TRIOS 3.
